Sakleshpur travel guide
Sakleshpur is a hill town in Hassan district, Karnataka, at about 950 m in the Western Ghats. It's coffee, cardamom and pepper country, a classic weekend getaway from Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mangaluru.
From Bengaluru, take the Bengaluru–Mangaluru highway (NH75) through Kunigal, Channarayapatna and Hassan to Sakleshpur. From Mysuru, drive up via Hassan. From Mangaluru, climb the Shiradi Ghat on NH75. In the monsoon, drive the ghat sections slowly and start early.
Sakleshpur railway station sits on the scenic Bengaluru–Hassan–Mangaluru line, one of India's most beautiful rail routes through the Ghats. Hire a cab or auto from the station, and message us your arrival time for directions.
Mangaluru International Airport is the nearest airport, followed by Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. Both have taxis for the drive to Sakleshpur.
A homestay puts you inside the Malnad landscape rather than looking at it. At The GreenStay you eat what the region eats, cooked fresh three times a day. You wake up among coffee and cardamom estates with a spring-fed stream nearby. Groups can book the whole villa and have it to themselves. And instead of a reception desk, you get a caretaker who knows the local trails, waterfalls and viewpoints.
